Behind the numbers

About the
museum

We encounter some form of statistics every day in our lives—through headlines, election polls, advertisements, medical studies, and social media—which often shape the way we perceive the world. While the numbers working in the background are rarely misleading, miscommunication and misconceptions often arise from the way they are represented.

The Margins of Error is an interactive museum that explores these misconceptions using visualisations, storytelling, and a little mathematics to uncover the ideas that shape statistical thinking. The goal is not to distrust the statistics we see, but rather to understand what the numbers can reveal—and, perhaps more importantly, what they cannot.
